Announcemnt: Thomas E. Murphy Memorial Scholarship

The Midwest Section of the Air & Waste Management Association has established a scholarship for graduate students studying in the environmental field in memory of a long-time member, Thomas E. Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was the Manager of Environmental, Health and Safety Services at Ash Grove Cement Company, headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas. His credentials included:
  • Certified in Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene by American Board of Industrial Hygiene
  • B.S. - Chemistry and Biology, Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Missouri
  • M.S. - Industrial Hygiene, Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri
  • Member of the Air & Waste Management Association
  • Member of American Chemical Society (ACS) and was an elected counselor of the Kansas City Section
  • Member of American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)
  • Member of ASTM Committee D34, Waste Management
  • Past Chairman of the National Lime Association?s Regulatory Compliance Committee
  • Member of the Safety and Health Subcommittee of the American Portland Cement Alliance

Mr. Murphy's employer, Ash Grove Cement Company, has made a donation to the scholarship trust fund in his honor.

Good morning, and welcome to the Midwest Section of the Air & Waste Management Association's website brought to you from Kansas City.

The International Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) is a non-profit technical, scientific and educational organization with more than 17,000 members in over 65 countries. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Association provides a forum where all viewpoints on environmental issues receive consideration.

The Midwest Section of the Air & Waste Management Association is based in Kansas City, Missouri and serves the States of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska with the exception of the metropolitan St. Louis area which is served by the Greater St. Louis Section. The Midwest Section is currently comprised of approximately 400 members and two Chapters: the Iowa Chapter and the new Nebraska Chapter.

Our goal is to make this site as useful as possible to our members and prospective members, and to provide a tool by which to keep abreast of pertinent environmental issues in the midwest.
